Sunset Serenade

Sunset Serenade

I sit on my front porch and watch the setting sun. The mountains are gray, silhouetted against a backdrop of blue and orange, accented by a single gray-white cloud. From behind the mountain and cloud are white light rays fanned out like tail feathers of a bird against a blue sky. Between the top of the mountain and the bottom of the cloud glows a burnt orange. The birds begin their evening serenade for the setting sun. The bats dance and flit to the melody flying in and out of the skyline. The Quail family perform their ritual line dance across the street to the eucalyptus tree to roost for the night. The birds end their song and the cicadas begin theirs. The sun sets further behind the mountain. The sky changes color from a burnt orange to a bright pink and the light rays grow ever lighter. The cloud is darker gray highlighted with streaks of neon pink. The light slowly fades to dark. The crickets sing the night's song.
